Default Factions Ele - The Deep

Ok, I need to get something off my chest. While playing in the Deep today (for the about 30th time). A warrior started having a go at me for not having meteor shower. This is, for the record, the first time someone has had an issue with it.

Let me set it out for this person. The Deep is a Factions Elite Mission. Prophecies is NOT a pre-requisite for Factions. We who only have Factions, have the same right to be playing a Factions mission as the Proph people do. Unfortunatly, we cannot get the meteor shower spell we only get meteor. I have played my Ele for 170 hours in the last 33 days and she has helped killed Kanaxai 7 times (Bloody leavers account for most of the time we have to quit). My Ele dies very seldom and holds her own just fine! To this person: Perhaps you should worry about playing your warrior and I will worry about playing my Ele. I will not be buying Prophecies just so that I can join YOUR FACTIONS mission group. What a cheek!

Thank you I feel much better now.

I agree...but it is annoying when some people dont have the "required" skills for some builds

OOOOH i have an idea..... merge all the skills to core, so everyone can get them

to OP
you know what you problem is? You confused your right to play with his right to pick builds for his group.

I am 99% positive that his group was advertising "GLF nuker and blah". Now in case you didnt know nuker is a very specific ele build based around Meteor Shower, Rodgort's Invocation and either Echo or Glyph of Renewal. If you don't have that on your skillbar, you are NOT a nuker, period.
And if you've joined a group which was looking for a nuker, you are either complete noob or a lier and cheater. Either way you are abuse for your party.

Now one could go on and argue about usefullness of factions ele skills, but let me tell you this. The damage you can do with your DOT AoE spells from factions is irrelevant, because you screwing over real nukers by scattering mobs. This is team game and certain builds are required for a reason. If you can not play team work, go play with henchies and forget about elite missions.

You are all noobs, liking ice cream and poking around noses...
Its all you fault people getting tired to play the game.
What the heck is the meaning of "Your build sucks, we do 10% minor dmg with you in the group! Cause of that we ALL die... *cries*"
Enough said.
Get a life <.<

Great reply Ira only problem is that it was MY group. He asked me three times if he could join. Eventually I accepted him and this is what I got for it. I have never and will never "label" myself a nuker or otherwise. I am an Ele, thats what I say I am. I am no kiddie looking for a free ride. I am a mother of 4 sons, two of them teenagers. I dont need to pretend to be anything.

Good reply, Ira. QFT!

My Canthan ele is a minion mistress. It really upsets groups who randomly invite her when they find out she's not a 'nuker' or even fire-based. That is, until they find out she's an earth-based (as in, can call Armor of Earth to protect herself with a couple decent damage skills) minion mistress with a lot more energy than most necros (doesn't have near the regen trouble, doesn't need a battery). Then, magically, they all forget the "ele" part and the squishy--but pretty -- armor and fight to get her!

Have fun. Experiment to see what works best for you. Play your character the way you want. Screw those who have very little imagination and even less tolerance for individuality!

very well then, please accept my apologies for assuming you imposing yourself as a nuker.
Still the point remains you can not be effective damage dealer as an ele w/o prophecies skills. It might have been expressed in a wrong way, but it is true. Elementalist is like the worst choice for the factions only character.

What does that have to do with anything?

Why even bring it up?

The Great AoE Nerf of Prophecies finished off Firestorm as a viable skill. Where it once dealt decent damage, it now scatters the enemies like gerbils on meth. Meteor Shower works only because it knocks them down and prevents them from fleeing out of the zone of damage.

"Have fun. Experiment to see what works best for you. Play your character the way you want. Screw those who have very little imagination and even less tolerance for individuality!"
FalconDance that hits the nail on the head.
I bought the game.If someone pays me for the game plus hourly wages sure I run any build they want...)Since I paid for it I going to have fun with it.
Vandia if you have help nail Kanaxai 7 times...Your doing something right..lol

Echo Nuking was already starting to show its age as a build before Factions came out - the knockdown ultimately isn't enough to make up for the monsters' kiting - but now it's downright sub-par. Remember the monolithic single-class mobs you got in Prophecies? Well, now virtually everything is a balanced party and the battle lines are a lot more fluid... So your meteors are that much less likely to hit more than one guy.

Honestly, if the single-hit AoE damage effects (Fireball, for instance) aren't good enough - and they aren't - we're going to have to face up to what PVP players have been telling us for months: Elementalists simply aren't as good at being primary damage dealers as Necromancers.

(Incidentally, the increased "armour wall" plus the penalty for hitting opponents who are above level 20 hits us much, much harder than it does PVP players.)

<- A devoted Elementalist player, who now goes Water for fun and utility even though it's sub-par damage wise. Since Fire is too, and it's less interesting! Meanwhile, Deep Freeze herds monsters together so the Minion Master can kill them and the monks can kite them.

PS: I agree that Elementalist is the worst possible primary for Factions-only players. I expanded my account about two days after Factions came out, and the lack of new Elementalists in Shing Jea island was something of a running joke at the time.

This highlights a much greater problem.

The problem isn't whether a factions elementalist can deal damage; it's whether an elementalist can deal damage at all.

Guild Wars is the only RPG in which the class which can take the most damage, the Warrior, can also deal the most damage. Every single other RPG there has an elemental spellcaster as the supreme damage dealer; yet in GW the elementalist clearly sucks ass at inflicting damage.

(hint hint unbalanced.)

And yes. Factions-only eles are seriously handicapped. With their focus on PbAoE skills (all the factions fire elites are PbAoE), they are in a worse off position than any Tyrian ele. All nuking builds can be made with Tyrian skills and do not require any factions skills at all.

Meteor shower is in no way a set requirement for a 'nuker'. Echo and Glyph of renewal are not requirements either (only for echo-nukers). The OP is making a comment about players like you that have a set build preference and do not deviate from it.

I laugh at all the players who agree with your view and hope they come to play mesmers, where I can see them mercilessly tormented for not running a standard build for which there is none. I am not kidding at all.

Play how you want, if people call you out for your build, then to hell with them. Unless there is literally something wrong with your build - it can't maintain energy, it scatters aggro badly, etc. So long as you're pulling your weight... go for it.

Factions only players should not be penalized for having just factions. It was advertised as a stand alone, yet all the skill are not available. This just isn't right. Anet, please make all tyria skills available to Canthans.

Not all faction skills are in Tyria.
Not all prophecy skills are in Cantha.

Stand alone != has all skills ever. It means has a full number of skills, all the ones of that game.
